Friday 28th August - bike **** - Felixstowe circuit including breakfast at
the water ski jetty – sunny periods.
We were keen to get out on our bikes first thing before the forecast rain
arrived and we have to go to Ipswich to visit my Dad in hospital. As we
went to bed a bit later than usual last night we didn’t get up until 7
and the strong winds with rain had gone so we packed our breakfast then
biked down to the prom to a mainly cloudy morning with the sun showing its
face from time to time. It was fairly quiet today as we made it to the
Fludgers with the usual good numbers of open water swimmer. Then around to
the beach huts near conkerland and down the windy path to the prom, past
The Dip with even more swimmers preparing for a dip and onto the always
lovely Felixstowe Ferry. Several boats were making the most of high water
heading out of the River Deben silhouetted against the sun and with very
few people about it was great. The seen from the jetty was fantastic with
sunshine on the fishing huts and boat all set against a menacing dark sky
with my favourite little red, white and blue boat called Pintail today was
floating:) A quick trip about the boat yard before setting off along the
Deben path past the old house boats and wrecks, always worth a photo. The
path is pretty bumpy despite the recent rain as we made our way past
Kings Fleet to our picnic bench at the water ski jetty passing a huge
digger just about to start work on the dykes! There was a couple of Terns
and a black headed gull resting on the jetty as the tide just starts to
whizz out. There is a definite feel of Autumn in the air today but we are
sheltered from the breeze as we tuck into our Weetabix, fruit and a hot
cuppa enjoying the peace and quiet:) Todays birds include the resident
Kestral again, Egrets, Terns, Gulls, a Marsh Harrier and some unidentified
waders as we continue to the second footpath up to Falkenham church with
more blue in the sky now. Then across various bridleways and footpaths
across the onion field coming out at Kirton. Then across to our tree lined
path with views down to the Orwell at Levington and home after being out
for over three hours. Then time to do my exercises, in the garden to start
before the rain arrives, lunch and then head to my Dads house to continue
weeding his garden. We then get a phone call from my sister with some good
news, my Dad has been told he can come home today, so after Mag arranges a
time to pick him up we continue to his house and spend an hour sorting out
his back garden after having already done the front earlier this week! Then
we head over to the hospital to get Dad and it is nice to see him dressed
and raring to get home. We have to wait for a nurse to bring the paper work
before I can wheel him to freedom:) We find Mag by A & E and head to a
small Tesco for supplies before taking him home. We stop for an hour having
a cuppa and Dad is in fine form, looking much better and it is great to see
him at home again:)
We could be in for an OK weekend for windsurfing with the wind in a cool
northerly direction several of us are heading to the River Stour early to
make the most of a 10 o clock high water with fingers crossed we don’t
get any rain – fin or foil now that is the question????
